Solid wood 3+1+1 sofa set with a dark wooden frame, cane side panels and cream cushions in a bright Dubai living room

Wooden Sofa Sets in Dubai: How to Choose a 3+1+1 Set (Size, Wood, Cushions and Care)

Short answer: A 3+1+1 wooden sofa set is a three-seater sofa plus two armchairs: five seats, one more than a 4-seater sofa, with no piece much longer than 2 metres. Measure the room first, then choose an exposed wooden frame or a fully upholstered design, and a cushion fabric that copes with UAE sun and dust.

  • Seats: five, in three pieces.
  • Space: about 3 m of depth for a face-to-face layout.
  • Frame: solid rosewood or mango; the cushions are what wear.

What does 3+1+1 mean, and is it better than a 4-seater sofa?

3+1+1 means one three-seater sofa and two single armchairs: five seats in three pieces. A 4-seater is one long sofa that keeps everyone on one side, facing the TV.

The detail most buyers miss is delivery. A 4-seater is usually 220–250 cm long in one piece, and it must fit the lift, the corridor corners and the doorway. The longest piece of a 3+1+1 set, the three-seater, is 185–206 cm in the Opel Home range, so it is easier to get into an apartment and to rearrange later.

Layout Seats Longest piece Best for
3+1+1 set 5 Three-seater, about 180–210 cm Seating around a coffee table
4-seater sofa 4 About 220–250 cm in one piece One long, unbroken wall facing a TV
L-shaped sofa 5–6 About 250 cm or more on the long side Large open-plan rooms and corners

Choose a 3+1+1 if guests sit facing each other or your walls are broken up by windows, doors and AC units. Choose a 4-seater for one long wall facing a TV. If the sofa must also sleep guests, see our sofa cum bed buying guide.

How much floor space does a 3+1+1 sofa set need?

Plan for about 3 m of depth for a face-to-face layout, or about 3.5 m of width if the chairs sit at either end of the coffee table. These figures use the Opel Home Alleana set, a 185 × 73 cm three-seater with two 85 × 73 cm armchairs, and a 120 × 60 cm coffee table.

Three rules of thumb apply: leave 40–50 cm between the sofa and the coffee table, keep walkways 75–90 cm wide, and choose a coffee table about two-thirds the length of the sofa.

  • Face to face: sofa on one wall, both chairs opposite. About 1.9 m wide and 3 m deep (73 + 45 + 60 + 45 + 73 cm). Suits long, narrow rooms.
  • U-shape: one chair at each end of the coffee table. About 3.5 m wide (73 + 45 + 120 + 45 + 73 cm) and a little over 2 m deep. Suits square rooms and majlis-style seating.

Mark each piece on the floor with masking tape before you order, and match a table from the coffee table collection.

Exposed wooden frame or fully upholstered: which sofa set suits you?

Choose an exposed wooden frame for visible wood, a cooler seat and less fabric to clean, and a classic or majlis-style room. Choose a fully upholstered set for a softer, more enclosed seat and a modern look.

Feature Exposed wooden frame Upholstered on a wooden frame
Opel Home example Alleana: solid rosewood with cane side panels, walnut finish Brix: solid wood frame, cream cotton and faux leather, black-finish legs
Heat Open sides and cane let air move, so the seat stays cooler More fabric around the body, so it feels warmer
Dust and spills The frame wipes clean with a dry cloth Needs regular vacuuming and spot cleaning
Where wear shows Mostly on the cushions On the arms and the front edge of the seat

Which wood is best for a sofa frame in the UAE: rosewood, mango or teak?

Any dense hardwood makes a good sofa frame, provided it is solid wood, not MDF or particleboard, because the joints take body weight every day.

Rosewood is dense and heavy with a dark, strong grain; Opel Home uses it for most of its sofa sets and lounge chairs, including the Alleana and Madison. Mango wood is lighter in colour and weight, as on the Roseline arm chair. Teak is naturally oily and resists moisture. In AC-dried rooms that take in humid air whenever a door opens, solid wood moves slightly and settles, while MDF and particleboard can swell and lose their grip on screws.

Finish names describe colour, not species: the Madison is solid rosewood in a teak finish, and a walnut finish is a colour, not walnut timber. Opel Home's wooden furniture is solid mango, acacia, rosewood or teak, handcrafted in India and never MDF or veneer; on a sofa set that means the frame, not the foam, fabric or cane. Compare mango, acacia and teak for Dubai homes or read why solid wood beats MDF in the UAE climate.

Which cushion fabric suits UAE sun, dust and family life?

Cotton suits UAE heat best because it breathes. Faux leather wipes clean but heats up in sun, and velvet and bouclé are soft but trap fine dust, so vacuum them often.

  • Cotton (Alleana, Brix): breathable and cool, but cream shows marks, so spot clean spills quickly with mild soap and water.
  • Faux leather (Brix, listed as rexine): wipes clean with a damp cloth, but gets hot in strong sun and can dry out and crack over time.
  • Velvet (Madison): soft with a deep colour; vacuum often and keep it out of direct sun, which fades the pile.
  • Bouclé (Roseline): textured and forgiving of creases, but loops can catch on rings and pet claws. See our bouclé armchair guide.

Keep any set out of direct afternoon sun, which fades fabric and changes the colour of wood, and out of the cold stream of a split AC unit. Vacuum cushions weekly, wipe the frame with a dry cloth, dust cane with a soft brush, and use a professional cleaner for deep stains.

What should you check before you order a wooden sofa set?

Check the room, the route into your home and what is in the box.

  • Room: width and depth for your layout, with 40–50 cm to the coffee table and 75–90 cm walkways.
  • Access: the service lift, corridor turns and doorways, against the three-seater's length and depth.
  • What is included: whether the coffee table in the photos comes with the set. The Alleana is sold without it.
  • Height: from 75 cm on the Brix three-seater to 90 cm on the Alleana; compare with your other seating.
  • Fabric: matched to sun, children and pets.
  • Delivery and returns: the delivery time to your emirate, how you will pay and the 72-hour return window.

Frequently asked questions

How many people does a 3+1+1 sofa set seat?

Five: three on the sofa and one in each armchair, one more than a 4-seater sofa. Because the set comes in three pieces, it can be arranged face to face, in a U-shape around a coffee table, or across two walls.

Is a 3+1+1 sofa set better than a 4-seater sofa for a Dubai apartment?

Often, yes. It seats five instead of four, and its longest piece, the three-seater, is 185–206 cm in the Opel Home range, easier to take up in a lift than a 220–250 cm four-seater. A 4-seater suits one long wall facing a TV.

Which wood is best for a wooden sofa set?

Rosewood, a dense hardwood that Opel Home uses for most of its sofa sets and lounge chairs. Mango wood is lighter in colour and weight. Above all, the frame should be solid wood rather than MDF or particleboard.

Is the coffee table included with a 3+1+1 sofa set?

Not always. Some sets are photographed with a coffee table that is not part of the set; the Opel Home Alleana, for example, is sold without it. Check the title and description before ordering, and choose a table about two-thirds the length of the three-seater.

Does the warranty cover the sofa cushions and fabric?

No. Opel Home's 12-month warranty covers manufacturing and workmanship defects in the wood and construction. It does not cover fabric, cushions, padding or other upholstery, normal colour change, or wear from regular use, so choose a cushion fabric that suits your household.
